This Strawberry Burrata Salad is one of my go-to summer salad recipes for warm-weather entertaining and dinner parties outdoors in my garden. It’s colorful, fresh, and comes together in minutes. Juicy strawberries, ripe heirloom tomatoes, creamy burrata cheese… what’s not to love?
Serve it as part of a Mediterranean appetizer spread with or simple pasta tossed in my Roasted Cherry Tomato Sauce, Sicilian Pesto, or Walnut Basil Pesto.

Why This Recipe Works
- Super easy to make: Minimal prep, no cooking, and ready in under 15 minutes. And it’s very impressive.
- Perfect for summer: Showcases ripe strawberries and juicy heirloom tomatoes at their seasonal best. Check out some of my other summer recipes.
- Versatile pairing: Works beautifully as a light appetizer, side salad, or even a centerpiece for a brunch menu.
Ingredients
Because this recipe has very few ingredients, it’s important to use the best ones you can get. Good quality heirloom tomatoes and fresh seasonal strawberries. Here is what you will need:

- Fresh tomatoes: Even though you can make this salad with just strawberries, I think you really need fresh heirloom tomatoes to balance out the sweetness and add some juicy tartness to the dish. You can certainly use cherry tomatoes. I actually use both heirlooms and cherry tomatoes in my Peach Caprese Salad. Also, try my Heirloom Tomato Carpaccio if you have extra tomatoes on hand.
- Fresh strawberries: You can probably make this salad year round, but I highly recommend making it when your local sweet strawberries are in season! And if you have an abundance of strawberries like I do every June/July, make some of my other strawberry recipes: Macerated Strawberries and Strawberry Balsamic Black Pepper Jam.
- Onion: I am using red onion for flavor and color. But the key here is to slice them as thinly as you can. Use a mandoline if you have one.
- Basil: A classic pairing for a reason. Fresh basil works so well with tomatoes, strawberries and the creamy cheese. If you have homegrown basil, now would be the time to use it!
- Burrata: The ball of Burrata cheese is the star of the show, with its gooey and rich center. If you can’t get your hands on burrata, you can make this recipe with buffalo mozzarella cheese. For more burrata recipes, try my Burrata Bruschetta and Burrata Caprese.

Pairing and Menu Ideas
This vibrant salad pairs beautifully with many of my Mediterranean Mains and Mediterranean Appetizers. It also works great with many of my grilling recipes and summer recipes. Try it with:
For a more Italian themed menu, serve it as an appetizer with my Mushroom Pappardelle, Short Rib ragu, Pasta alla Zozzona, or with a simple pasta tossed in my Roasted Cherry Tomato Sauce, Roasted Tomato sauce, Sicilian Pesto, or Walnut Basil Pesto.
Or simply serve with some crusty bread or one of my summery focaccia recipes: No Knead Focaccia, Tomato Focaccia or Cherry Tomato Feta Cheese Focaccia.

Expert Tips
- Choose ripe fruits. The flavor of this salad depends on ripe strawberries and juicy tomatoes. Fresh ingredients speak for themselves.
- Serve at room temperature. Burrata is best enjoyed when creamy and soft, not straight from the fridge.
- Adjust acidity. If your balsamic vinegar is sharp, balance it with a drizzle of honey. Or use a sweeter aged balsamic or balsamic glaze.
- Make it Greek! This recipe is very much Italian-inspired, but you can make some minor adjustments and make it Greek-inspired: use feta cheese, kalamata olives and replace the basil with fresh dill and fresh oregano.
- Other additions: A base of peppery arugula, lemon zest, lemon juice, pine nuts, other sweet berries like blueberries or blackberries.
Recipe FAQs
You can slice the strawberries, tomatoes, and onion up to a few hours in advance, but assemble the salad just before serving to keep it fresh.
This salad is best enjoyed fresh but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 day.
